I went to sleep on Saturday night and it was raining, I woke up Sunday morning and it hadn’t stopped. Gutted. The Ka was loaded up from the night before and I trundled onto the A43, for the 15 minute drive to the meet point at Towcester Tesco’s. I had two problems now, one I had forgotten the big memory stick to my camera, two I had not worn enough clothes and was already getting cold. Actually I had a third, a lack of coffee inside me. Still this was forgotten as I arrived at Tesco’s to find a “pride” of Ka’s already gathered and Russ ready to hand out the passes and tickets to all. Rain beading on fresh polish is a nice sight, though not as nice as rain not beading on polish because it’s warm and sunny.
We had a cracking bunch of Ka’s by the leave time of 6:45am and the rain had eased up slightly. So with hello’s sorted and a few pictures snapped of the assembled Ka’s we were itching to get going.
We only had two no-shows, so Russ put his foot to the floor and we all pealed out the car park with Joey’s Ka firing off a huge bang. It was so loud that the aloof Sierra Cosworth driver who had roled around the car park a few minutes earlier and stopped at the ATM to get some cash, actually jumped. Hahahahahahaha.
A police motorbike put a hole in the konvoy at the A5 roundabout and despite some concern that every Ka the bike went past, was one Ka closer to saying hello to one of the big engine Ka’s, nothing happened.
We managed to stay roughly together down the A43 and up the slip road into Silverstone. As per usual with modified shows the organisers seem to take pleasure in bringing us in across the worst entrance possible. Over a nasty gravel car park and a curb with a massive puddle that required care and attention for the low and body-kitted to avoid damage, arse scraping or just getting dirty. Come on Silverstone – tarmac was invented for a reason – use it on the Bridge entrance why don’t ya?! Still we were all in and the organisers had shifted our spot to the gravel from the mud that was shown on the plans. That was a relief, though our allocated space was very small. Challenge Russ time!
The new Klub Marquee, sail banners and A-frame banners went up with everyone helping out to set them up – you STARS! The light wind really helped them to fly well. We did get some sun, just enough to light up the rear quarter of the Ka and help dry the marquee out!
Russ nabbed some photos including one of Trax looking like the depths of winter, umbrellas up, coats on, driving wind and rain. This is when I got so cold, I couldn’t stop shaking. Not even an over-priced Cheese and Tomato Toastie could warm me up!
The rain did mean that the ladies were not quite as “willing” as in sunny years. However there was still enough happy sights to put a smile on your face! 10th Racer (Ben Henderson) has put some special photos up on the forum for us to enjoy. Good Lad!
Trax 2008 may have been a wet and windy show, but it’s still Trax and it was a grand day out. Klubber’s were caught up with, trick modded cars were admired, the ladies were admired as well! Roll on 2009 and we hope blazing sunshine.
