Removing and Cleaning the ICV (Idle Control Valve)

A common problem with the Ka is rough idling and engine stall. This is usually due to the ICV being clogged up with carbon and oil deposits gathered in there over time. The problem is easy to correct by removing it and cleaning it out.

You will need:
Socket Set/Torx Screw Drivers.
A Can of Fuel Injection Intake Cleaner (available at Halfords)

1. First open the bonnet. You will need to locate the ICV which is attached to the inlet manifold.

2. Undo the two nuts securing the ICV to the inlet.

3. Remove the multi plug freeing the IVC

4. The ICV will look all black inside. Not nice and not doing your engine any good.
5. Spray the intake cleaner in the two holes well away from the car or any painted surface. Also keep out of the wind and the spray away from yours eyes.
6. Once the inside looks nice and clean its ready to fit back on.

7. You could now fit the ICV back onto the car or remove the mounting of the ICV and clean that too.
8. Fit the lot back together and tighen the mouting bolts up to 7lbf ft. Dont forget to refit the multi-plug.

9. Close the bonnet. Job done.
